Description
PEG-MGF (PEGylated Mechano Growth Factor) is a modified form of Mechano Growth Factor, itself an alternative splice variant of IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1) that is locally upregulated in mechanically stressed or damaged muscle tissue. The addition of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety extends the peptide’s circulatory half-life relative to non-PEGylated MGF, making it a more suitable reference compound for time-extended in vivo and in vitro study designs. Supplied as a purified lyophilized powder in sealed 2mg vials, each lot is independently tested by third-party laboratories via HPLC/UPLC-MS with purity confirmed at 99%+ and bacterial endotoxin results published per batch. The lyophilized form should be stored in cool, dry conditions; once reconstituted, refrigeration at 2–8 °C is required.
In laboratory research contexts, MGF and its PEGylated derivatives have been studied for their roles in activating muscle satellite cells (myoblast progenitors), stimulating myoblast proliferation prior to differentiation, and supporting repair of mechanically or ischemia-induced tissue injury in skeletal muscle model systems. The PEG-MGF variant is particularly useful for researchers examining the temporal dynamics of growth factor receptor signaling following tissue challenge, as its extended half-life allows more controlled study of downstream IGF-1 receptor-dependent proliferative cascades.
