Description
Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP; Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) is a nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood following thalamic stimulation and subsequently identified in hypothalamic, pituitary, and peripheral tissue compartments. Early research characterized its apparent ability to induce delta-wave sleep patterns in animal models; subsequent investigations have expanded to examine its interactions with the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and its influence on LH, GH, and corticotropin release.
In vitro and rodent studies have also explored DSIP’s antioxidant properties, modulation of mitochondrial membrane function, and potential role as a stress-buffering neuromodulator.
