Follistatin

Description

Follistatin (FST-344) is a monomeric secreted glycoprotein that binds with high affinity to multiple TGF-β superfamily ligands, most notably activin A/B and myostatin (GDF-8), neutralizing their signaling activity by preventing receptor engagement. In skeletal muscle research, Follistatin has been a key tool compound for investigating the negative regulation of myostatin-driven atrophy signaling, with gene overexpression and recombinant protein studies demonstrating pronounced muscle fiber hypertrophy in murine models. It is also extensively used in reproductive biology research to examine its paracrine roles in granulosa cell proliferation and ovarian follicle development.
